Three Books That Changed My Life
I love reading books – I’m that woman who’s always reading at least two books at any given time. I read when I take baths, right before bed, when I’m on the train and during my day when I take little breaks from work. I tend to read mostly books on personal development and spirituality as there is just so much to learn! In this article I will share three of my favorite books that changed my life.
You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay
How can I not mention this classic book by Louise Hay? This book was truly life changing for me. I read it in the Summer on 2018 when I wasn’t doing too great. I felt stuck, bored and unmotivated. This book taught me how to take back control of my life and helped me heal, forgive and accept myself and others. Looking back, I think the inspiration for Rise with Kindness actually started while reading this book! I want everyone to feel loved and accepted, just like this book did for me.
One of my favorite quotes from the book is “Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens”. How many of you can relate to this statement? We’re taught to constantly judge ourselves even though it makes us feel horrible. When you shift from judging yourself to loving and accepting yourself, everything changes. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what you’ve done or haven’t done: you are perfectly fine the way you are, right now. Read this book if you’re still looking for acceptance and love outside of yourself. This book will teach you how to find it inside.
The Book of Knowing and Worth by Paul Selig (channeled)
This is one of my favorite books that I discovered earlier this year. It’s definitely not something I’d recommend to just anyone – you’ll need to be open minded and already have read some books on spirituality before diving into this. It’s a channeled text by Paul Selig, who channels guides from higher realms who teach on self-worth and purpose in this book.
I love the powerful mantra that is mentioned throughout the book: “I know who I am, I know what I am, I know how I serve”. Just by repeating these words while meditating I’ve gotten clearer on who I am, why I’m here and what my purpose is. This book is full of advice and wisdom and contains thought provoking questions. If you’re ready to dig deep, let go of old beliefs and want to remember who you are, then read this book!
The Fifth Agreement by Don Miguel & Don Jose Ruiz
Many years ago I read “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. This is the sequel to the popular book, that he wrote together with his son. It features the four agreements plus a fifth element. This book is described as a “practical guide to self-mastery”, which it truly is.
While reading this book, you’ll learn old wisdom and ways of thinking that will make life a little easier. A little less stressful and more peaceful. The concepts in this book go way back, but are still so relevant and valuable in this day and age. I believe anyone can learn from these concepts, which are based on focusing more on yourself and not so much on what others are doing. Everyone is living life according to their own beliefs, experiences and values. This is why you can’t take anything personally, as everyone is just projecting their own beliefs onto others. Read this book if you want to suffer less and are looking for inner peace.
